Identification of IC

This particular topic might not be interesting to any of my friends from technical background, but surely will be a very helpful article for non-technical friends who want to make practically any electronic circuit.
An I.C. or Integrated Circuit is a very important component in Electronics. It is as the name says Integrated circuit- a device where a large circuit is 'printed' on a small chip the size of a finger nail thus reducing the size and reducing the cost. Today I.C.s for practically very application is available for a very low cost.
An I.C. has a very microscopic circuit inside it, but to make it practical it is enclosed in a plastic case and externals pins are provided for connections. Identification of these pins are crucial. Thus these pins are numbered for convenience. the numbering starts from the left side of the semi-circular cut or from the 'spot' (marked with the red arrow) goes on down as shown till the last pin on left side (numbered 6 in the diagram) them continues from the diagonally opposite side of spot upwards (starting from green arrow as 7 to 12 in the diagram) till the first pin on the right side of the cut. Commercially most I.C.s are made with standard number of pins like 8, 14, 16, 32, 40 etc even if the required number of pins are less. For any other details leave a comment or drop me a mail.
